Government responds to Centre’s push on OECD PISA Financial Literacy study participation

Tuesday, 23 June 2026

While the government has not yet formally committed to taking part in the 2029 study, we have received a positive response from the Department for Education to our recent letter regarding UK participation in the OECD PISA Financial Literacy study. In particular, the Department confirms that it has expressed an interest in participating in the financial literacy field trial for the next PISA cycle.

This is a significant step forward from previous correspondence, which merely indicated that participation would be considered at some point in the future. The response also reiterates the government’s commitment to strengthening financial learning through the curriculum, including reinforcing financial literacy provision at secondary level.

The field trial is an important milestone and suggests that involvement in the main study is now a realistic prospect. Thank you to everyone who supported the campaign and provided feedback on the letters. We shall continue to press the case and build support across business, the advisory community and the wider financial literacy sector.
